Remembering Those We Lost — A Reflection on Our Homeless Person’s Memorial Service
This past Sunday, on the longest night of the year, we gathered at Ss. Peter and Paul Jesuit Church to honor our neighbors who lost their lives to the heavy burdens of homelessness. Our annual Homeless Person’s Memorial Service is a sacred moment that brings the Detroit community together in remembrance, holding each life with care.
Candles were lit, names were spoken, and space was made for both grief and hope.
Fr. Tim McCabe, SJ presided over the service and reminded us of the dignity and sacredness of every life. Fr. Christopher Alt, SJ served as a concelebrant and offered a moving song during the service. The Sacred Heart Choir guided the evening through beautiful music.
We are deeply grateful to everyone who joined us and helped create a space rooted in reverence and unity. As we move forward, we carry the memory of our brothers and sisters with us, allowing their lives to continue shaping our commitment to support our neighbors in need with dignity, love and care.
