Faith in Action: A Powerful Partnership with the Ignatian Volunteer Corps
At PFC, we believe that addressing the root causes of homelessness requires more than just meeting immediate needs — it takes a community of people willing to walk alongside those we serve. That’s why partnerships are so vital to our work. Among those that walk alongside us in our mission is the Ignatian Volunteer Corps (IVC), a national non-profit that connects volunteers who bring their professional expertise, deep compassion, and commitment to service to organizations like ours.
The IVC’s mission is rooted in the Jesuit tradition of promoting the service of faith and the promotion of justice. Each volunteer dedicates their time and talents to nonprofit partners addressing issues like poverty, homelessness, education, and social inequities. These volunteers offer not only skills and experience, but also the wisdom and perspective that come from a lifetime of service and leadership.
We’re honored to be featured by IVC as one of their virtual partner sites, highlighted in a recent article on their website. IVC member Jim Whitney has supported the Bridge Housing Program team over the past year. From providing instructional sessions for our residents to assisting behind the scenes with curriculum development, Jim has been an integral part of the lives of our residents.
The impact of this partnership goes far beyond the tasks completed. Each IVC member approaches their work with a spirit of accompaniment — walking with us and those we serve, learning from one another, and creating space for shared growth. That spirit perfectly reflects the heart of our mission at Pope Francis Center: to build relationships, foster dignity, and provide pathways out of homelessness, allowing our residents to reach their full potential.
We’re grateful for the Ignatian Volunteer Corps and their continued support of our mission. Together, we are building a stronger, more compassionate community — one rooted in faith, service, and the belief that every person deserves a safe place to call home.
