Jim Tobin Brings Detroit Roots and a Lifetime of Leadership and Community Service to PFC Board
Jim Tobin, who was elected to the Pope Francis Center (PFC) board of directors in August, brings a lifetime of local knowledge and corporate leadership experience to the organization’s already strong board.
Growing up as one of 13 children near the corner of Vernor and Junction in southwest Detroit, Jim is a graduate of the historic Holy Redeemer Grade School, a fixture in Detroit’s Catholic school system for generations of students.
After earning a degree in business administration from St. John Fisher University in Rochester, NY, Jim spent 22 years in the machine tool and equipment field within the automotive industry before joining Magna International, a global mobility and technology company. After working in the Magna Cosma unit, Tobin served in the company’s corporate operation in senior sales and business development positions. He was named Magna International’s chief marketing officer in 2010 and president of Magna Asia in 2012. He retired from the company in 2020.
Jim has been a long-time supporter of PFC and was honored for his service and commitment to both the organization and the community at the 2023 Building Bridges Gala. In addition to PFC, Tobin serves on the Focus: HOPE Advisory Board and has been Magna’s champion for the Detroit Cristo Rey High School, Holy Redeemer Grade School and Loyola High School work study programs.
“As co-chair of the capital campaign that raised $40 million for the Bridge Housing Campus, Jim’s passion and leadership exemplified his commitment to serving Detroit’s most vulnerable residents. We are honored to have him as a member of our board,” said Jim Vella, PFC board chair.
