Celebrating the Feast of St. Ignatius: Creating Community at PFC

On July 31, 2025, we welcomed 215 guests for a special gathering in honor of the Feast of St. Ignatius — a day that celebrates not only the founder of the Jesuit tradition, but also the values of reflection, service, and solidarity that guide our work at PFC.

The event was organized in partnership with the Midwest Jesuits and Detroit Jesuit Ministries – a collaboration of the eight Jesuit works in the Detroit Area: Ss. Peter & Paul Jesuit Church, U of D Jesuit High School and Academy, University of Detroit Mercy, Gesu Catholic Church, Manresa Jesuit Retreat House, Loyola High School, Jesuit Friends & Alumni Detroit, and of course, Pope Francis Center.

We were proud to host Detroit Archbishop Edward Weisenburger, who led a heartfelt Mass in the Vinnie Johnson Gymnasium of our Bridge Housing Campus. His message encouraged all of us to continue walking alongside those in need, embracing compassion and humility in our daily lives.

After the service, guests enjoyed hors d’oeuvres and time to connect with one another, all united by a shared commitment to serving Detroit’s most vulnerable. The event created space for meaningful conversation, new connections, and renewed energy for the work ahead.

At Pope Francis Center, this day is a reminder of the strength that comes from community and the power of showing up for one another. Thank you to everyone who joined us in celebrating a legacy of service, and for continuing to be part of this mission.
