More Than a Race: The Impact of the Detroit Grand Prix on the Mission of PFC

The Detroit Grand Prix brings excitement to downtown Detroit each year, but its impact extends far beyond race weekend.

In a recent Detroit News feature, the Pope Francis Center was highlighted as one of the Grand Prix’s primary charitable partners. Through fundraising events and community initiatives, the Grand Prix has helped provide critical support for the 300–450 guests who visit our Day Center each day for meals, healthcare, and other essential services.

As PFC’s President & CEO, Fr. Tim McCabe shared in the article, the partnership is about more than funding—it’s about helping people feel seen and included.

“Our clientele loves it. They like the excitement that comes with it, and they feel included. It’s such a rare experience for the homeless to feel included in anything.”

We are deeply grateful to Roger Penske, the Detroit Grand Prix team, and everyone who supports the Grand Prix charitable initiatives. Their investment demonstrates what’s possible when a world-class sporting event uses its platform to strengthen the city it calls home.

While race cars may only speed through downtown for one weekend each year, the impact of this partnership is felt every single day by the men and women we are privileged to serve.
