As questions arise about the future of neighboring Ss. Peter and Paul Jesuit Church, Pope Francis Center assures the community that its doors remain open and its mission continues.
DETROIT, MI | October 23, 2026
Pope Francis Center is not closing.
Following recent news surrounding the potential closure of Ss. Peter and Paul Jesuit Church in downtown Detroit, Pope Francis Center is reassuring the community that its operations and commitment to serving Detroit’s neighbors experiencing homelessness remain unchanged.
In a recent interview with WXYZ-TV Channel 7, Fr. Tim McCabe, SJ, President and CEO of Pope Francis Center, addressed the uncertainty surrounding the neighboring church and reaffirmed the organization’s ongoing mission.
While the Archdiocese of Detroit continues its parish restructuring process, Pope Francis Center remains focused on what it has always done: meeting people where they are, providing compassionate care, and helping individuals move toward stability and permanent housing.
Our Mission Continues
Each day, Pope Francis Center welcomes hundreds of guests seeking essential services, including nutritious meals, showers, laundry facilities, and access to medical and legal support.
Through its Day Center in downtown Detroit and its Bridge Housing Campus, Pope Francis Center provides more than immediate relief. The organization works to address the root causes of homelessness and create meaningful pathways toward long-term stability and permanent housing.
That commitment remains as strong as ever.
Grateful for the Opportunity to Share Our Story
We extend our sincere thanks to WXYZ-TV and reporter Carli Petrus for highlighting this important distinction and helping reassure the community that Pope Francis Center’s work continues.
We are also deeply grateful to our supporters, volunteers, partners, and neighbors who make this mission possible every day.
Our doors remain open. Our mission continues. And our commitment to Detroit remains unwavering.
