Every morning, we offer our guests two meals, showers and laundry services.

In order to make it all happen, we need volunteers willing to roll up their sleeves and do a little bit of everything.

Frequently Asked Questions

Pope Francis center

Where is the Pope Francis Center located?

The Pope Francis Center is located at 438 Saint Antoine St. Detroit, Michigan 48226.  Please see our Contact Us page for a map.

Where should I park?

Free parking is located in a secure lot directly behind the Pope Francis Center. Entrance to the lot is off Larned, just east of Saint Antoine.

Where do I enter the building?

Once you park, cross Larned and enter the building through the rear courtyard. As you approach the courtyard, you will see a door marked “Office” on the right. Please use the intercom to buzz and let us know you’ve arrived to volunteer!

What should I wear?

Closed-toed shoes and a baseball cap or head covering are required at all times for kitchen volunteers. We’d recommend you wear both no matter what your duties are for the day – just in case we need a backup sous chef!

What will I be doing?

That depends on what you signed up for! Saturday morning volunteers will start in the kitchen cooking and serving the daily meal. Some may be asked to assist with laundry or in the front office, passing out towels and toiletries, and managing the showers. We also have volunteers come in to help us meal prep on weekdays. No matter what, you will always be with a staff member to help you along the way!

Do you have any tips for successfully interacting with PFC’s homeless guests?

• Be polite, treat everyone with dignity and respect
• Maintain a non-judgemental attitude
• Keep sensitive matters confidential

Clumsy in the kitchen? Consider sponsoring a meal for $350.

Not in the budget? Just $29 covers the cost of a hygiene kit which includes a toothbrush, toothpaste, deodorant, razor, socks and underwear.
